Kapil Dev's shocking revelation

Australia defeated India by six wickets in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. Ahead of the game, the Cricket Governing Body planned to call all the previous World Cup-winning captains and felicitate them. The former India World Cup winner Kapil Dev was not present at the iconic ground. Kapil was the first captain for India who won the prestigious trophy for the first time back in 1983. They defeated the mighty West Indies for the first time in the final.

Kapil Dev made a shocking revelation he said, he was not invited because the star all-rounder wanted each member of the team to be present in the stadium alongside him. The team in 1983 performed sensationally well and won the tournament as underdogs. He played an important knock of 175 runs in that tournament against Zimbabwe as well.

India's 10-match unbeaten run in the current edition of the tournament came to an end in the final as Rohit Sharma's side lost their second ODI World Cup final against the same opponent they lost 20 years ago at Johannesburg, South Africa. The Men in Blue have performed superbly in the tournament. Travis Head played a knock of 137 runs in a low-scoring target of 241 runs and took the game away from the two-time world champions. Marnus Labuschagne played a supportive role with 58 runs off 110 balls.

They didn’t call me so I did not go: Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev said, "I wasn’t invited. They didn’t call me so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole ’83 team to be there with me but I guess due to the fact that it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget."

Kohli is the highest run scorer with 765 runs at an average of 95.63, including six fifties and three centuries. The former India skipper has been in sensational form in the tournament. Mohammed Shami has also performed brilliantly and will be the highest wicket-taker for the tournament with 24 wickets. Australia showed class and why they are the best and most successful team in the World Cup as they won their sixth title.
