Iceland Cricket to host Champions Trophy

Iceland-Pakistan

The Champions Trophy (CT) 2025 is set to be held in Pakistan. However, there have been reports that they might lose the hosting rights due to India's stance on not travelling to their neighbouring country. Due to political tensions, Both teams have not participated in any bilateral series since 2012-13. As per the reports, the tournament can be shifted to UAE.

Amid the rumours, Iceland has expressed its interest in hosting the major tournament through social media in a hilarious post. In response to the stories and rumours, Iceland Cricket wrote a letter filled with jokes about their challenging weather conditions and lack of proper cricket fields in an attempt to host the competition. They also trolled the former Pakistan captain Babar Azam who recently stepped down as captain after the dismal performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.

The CT 2025 will be played in February-March, with eight teams participating. The CT 2025 will indeed be played in a hybrid model if it is held in Pakistan, and then the Cricket Governing Body has to find a different venue for India.

We are not people who hold back: Iceland Cricket

Iceland Cricket said, "We are not people who hold back. We have today issued our bid to host the Champions Trophy of 2025, and we look forward to hearing what Greg Barclay of the Cricket Governing Body has to say about it." Responding to a post, which read, "What is something that still hasn't gone back to normal after the pandemic?", Iceland Cricket replied, saying: "The batting average of Babar Azam."

The 30-year-old batter's captaincy came under scrutiny when he was not able to perform in the marquee tournament as per expectations. He scored 320 runs in the nine matches, averaging less than 40. Several former players and experts lashed at him about his poor leadership abilities during the World Cup. The new captain for T20I and Test has been announced by their board. Shan Masood has been named as the Test skipper and Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the T20I captain.
