New Update
Former India skipper Rahul Dravid was given an extension as the head coach after the ODI World Cup 2023. The team played the final, winning 10 games on the trot before losing the final, which mattered the most. Meanwhile, given the team played the summit clash after having a disaster in the West Indies, playing the final can be counted as an achievement.
Also, not to forget, the Men In Blue won the Asia Cup 2023 for the first time in five years. Speaking to the media, the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah has revealed that Dravid's extension is yet to be finalized. The former added that after the World Cup, the board didn't have much time with the tour of South Africa approaching. Shah further added that Dravid's extension will be discussed with him after the Rainbow Nation tour.
"We have given the extension but we are yet to finalise the contract. We did not get time at all, they finished (with the World Cup). I had a meeting with them (Dravid & Co.) and we agreed mutually that they will continue. We will sit down and decide once they return from South Africa," said Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah.
India won their first Test in South Africa under Rahul Dravid
The Asian side has been touring South Africa since 1991. That was the year when the Proteas were readmitted to international cricket after the end of the Apartheid era in the rainbow nation. In 2006, when Dravid was the captain of the team, they managed to win their first-ever Test in South Africa. 17 years later, he is the coach of the team and would like to see his team to win the ever-elusive Test series.
