Mumbai eyeing for bonus point win against Bihar led by Mohit Awasthy and Shivam Dubey’s bowling heroics

Mohit Awasthi and Shivam Dubey spearheaded Mumbai's efforts, taking 6 and 4 wickets against Bihar in the first and second innings, respectively. Mumbai set the tone with a first-innings total of 250 runs.

Mumbai vs Bihar Ranji Trophy

India’s domestic powerhouse Mumbai is having a great season opener as they are eyeing the season’s first win against Bihar who are making their debut in the Elite Group of the Ranji Trophy. At the Moinul-Haq Stadium in Patna Mumbai, bowlers wreaked havoc on Bihar’s batters as they bundled them for 100 in the first innings in response to 250 runs by Mumbai.

Mumbai’s Mohit Awasthi led the charge for Mumbai by taking 6 wickets of Bihar in the first innings for just 27 runs and ended up with the figures of 14.5-5-27-6. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Akash Raj, and Bipin Saurabh were the only batters who could reach the double-digit mark for Bihar with Akash topping the scoring chart with 32 runs. 

With a first-innings lead of 150 runs, Mumbai asked Bihar to bat again as they decided to enforce follow-on which proved to be a wise decision. Mumbai bowlers again got Bihar at 91 for 6, this time all-rounder Shivam Dubey led the charge and took 4 out of the total 6 wickets that fell in the second innings. Dubey ended the day with an impressive figures of 10-7-7-4. 

Mumbai will be eyeing their first win of the season with a bonus point as they will look to end the match with an innings left or will look to chase the second innings target if any with 10 wickets.

Two teams representing Bihar showed up for the same match

Earlier, a bizarre incident happened before the match when two teams representing Bihar came for the match creating an unprecedented situation stating the sorry situation of the internal politics of Bihar’s state cricket. 

One team represented the BCA president- Rakesh Tiwary, while the other was selected by the Secretary of Bihar Cricket Amit Kumar. It led to a situation of confrontation between two senior officials of Bihar Cricket which led to a situation of chaos before the match. After a heated argument and the involvement of local police, the matter finally got resolved and the team picked by the BCA President finally took the ground.
