Rachin Ravindra was the finding of the 2023 as the 23-year-old was in great form in the ODI World Cup 2023. The left-handed opener has been brilliant in the white-ball format and has made his mark in style in the Test format as well. The Southpaw scored a double hundred in his 4th game against South Africa. The batter played a knock of 240 runs in the 1st Test match of the series.
The Kiwis, on Wednesday, sealed off a sensational win against South Africa, defeating the Proteas by 281 runs to win the first Test in Mount Maunganui and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Kane Williamson and Rachin, made headlines with their respective centuries. As a result, the latter was named the Player of the Match for his incredible double hundred.
Rachin and Williamson added 232 runs for New Zealand's third wicket which allowed the Kiwis to recover from 39/2 to 271. He gave the credit to Williamson for his quiet celebration, Rachin then refused to share his Player of the Match trophy with his captain.
He's got 31 Test hundreds for my one so I'm not giving that one: Rachin Ravindra
Rachin after winning the award said, "Feels good in any capacity to contribute to team victory, how difficult it is to be out there for 4-5 days and get the job done. It'll rate this knock pretty high because of the time we spent out there and the partnerships we put out there for this win."
"Nah, not at all. He's got 31 Test hundreds for my one so I'm not giving that one. Any time you contribute to the win it makes you feel special. As long as you're giving your best you're made to feel you belong and it's driven well by the coaching staff."
Rachin has been the star for the Black Caps over the last few years. The batter was the highest run scorer for the side in the major tournament, scoring three centuries in the World Cup and helping to fill the shoes of Kane Williamson in his absence in the World Cup.
