Rohit Sharma is argyably the best captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The 36-year-old batter was in sensational form in the ODI World Cup 2023. He led the the side from the front and also qualified for the final initially losing to Australia. The opener have won 5 IPL trophies as a captain for Mumbai Indians (MI) but the veteran batter will not be leading the side in the IPL 2024 season. Hardik Pandya will be leading the side in the upcoming season.

The fans have lashed after the franchise took the decision and made Pandya the captain they raged and burned the jersey as well. The franchise lost thousands of social media followers as a result of the decision. After coach Mark Boucher described the reasoning behind this shift in leadership structure in a podcast, Rohit's wife Ritika took to social media to write a statement that sparked a light on the internet.

Boucher called the captaincy move choice simply a 'cricketing' one, as the club wished to alleviate some stress off Rohit's shoulders while allowing Hardik the opportunity to continue evolving as a captain, having already led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to two successive IPL finals.

I think it was purely a cricketing decision: Mark Boucher

Mark Boucher said on Smash Sports podcast, "I think it was purely a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me it's a transition phase. A lot of people don't understand in India, people get quite emotional, but you know you take the emotions away from it. I think it's just more of a cricketing decision that was made and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs."

Ritika, reacting to the podcast, wrote in the comment section: "So many things wrong with this..." Boucher further added, "One thing I did pick up with Ro (Rohit) is that he is a fantastic guy. I mean he's been captaining for ages and he's done really well for Mumbai Indians."
