After a two-year hiatus, Andre Russell makes a comeback to the West Indies T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against England. Russell's last appearance for West Indies was in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. His return to the squad positions him for potential participation in next year's T20 World Cup hosted by the West Indies.
A promising all-rounder, Matthew Forde showcased his skills during his ODI debut in the final game against England and has now earned his first call-up to the T20I squad. Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran, and Kyle Mayers, who were absent from the ODI series, have also been included in the T20I squad.
Sherfane Rutherford who was out of the T20I scene for nearly four years has been brought back into the squad by the selectors. Shai Hope, the captain for ODIs, will serve as the deputy to Rovman Powell. While the squad for the first three games has been announced, potential changes might occur for the remaining two ODIs. The series is scheduled to commence on December 12 in Barbados.
We will continue to assess in the lead up to the competition: Desmond Haynes
"This will be the final home T20I series for the West Indies in 2023, as they prepare to be one of the two host teams for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024. We have selected a squad that we think gives us the best chance of success in that tournament. We will continue to assess in the lead up to the competition," West Indies selector Desmond Haynes said
