Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the Test series against South Africa. The star pacer is set to miss both the Tests of the series due to an ankle strain he sustained in the ODI World Cup 2023. The news comes out as a huge blow for the Indian team, as they would be without the services of one of their best pacers in recent times.

It was reported earlier this week that Shami would be nearly ruled out of the Tests against South Africa. The confirmation of the same has been provided. shami reportedly needs a bit more time to recover from the injury. India will be without the experience of Shami during the series against South Africa in the longest format of the game. Shami has over 220 wickets in Test cricket for India.

In the absence of Shami, no replacement has been called by the Indian cricket board yet. Since there are 10 days before the start of the series, India might take some time to think about the replacement of Shami. The bowler of Shami's calibre is hard to replace. India is in some trouble in thinking about the able bowler to replace Shami in the series. Prasidh Krishna is likely to get his Test cap against SA.

Deepak Chahar to miss out of ODI series

Apart from the unavailability of Shami in Tests, India has to address another issue. Deepak Chahar is set to miss the ODI series against South Africa. The Indian pacer is likely to miss all the matches of the series due to some health issues. Reports claim that Chahar has some family emergency, due to which he would not be taking part in the ODIs against South Africa.

In the absence of Chahar, Akash Deep has been called as the replacement by the Indian team. "Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men's Selection Committee has named (pacer) Akash Deep as his replacement," the statement of the Indian Cricket Board read.
