This precautionary measure is being taken to prevent player illnesses during the seven-week-long tour, with a focus on ensuring the players' nutritional needs are met.

Citing this, Sehwag responded to a tweet from England's fanbase, the Barmy Army, regarding the news by retweeting it and offering a sarcastic comment, "The requirement came after Cook's departure. Won't be required during the IPL."

Earlier, the former Indian opener, Aakash Chopra also took a dig at the team and said, "Good idea. I am sure that the majority of English players must be bringing in their chefs for the IPL too, year after year. As if."

It is especially for players who refuse to eat spicy food: Reports

As per The Telegraph's report, the decision to bring their own chef was not due to distrust in Indian hotels but rather stemmed from the players' preferences and aversion to spicy food. The Test series will commence in Hyderabad, followed by matches in Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Ranchi, with the final Test scheduled to be held in Dharamsala.

"England insist it has nothing to do with not trusting hotels to provide clean facilities and is instead about ensuring players, especially those who refuse to eat spicy food, are eating nutritious meals rather than filling up on energy bars and pizzas," reported the Telegraph.

England's most recent Test series victory in India was in 2012. In the 2021 series, England secured a win in the opening Test in Chennai but subsequently lost the next three Test matches against India. The team faced criticism for arriving in India only three days before the series, which is set to commence on January 25.
