West Indies and the USA are set to host the 2024 Edition of the T20 World Cup in June. The Indian fans are waiting for the event to get their hands on the elusive World title. Former legendary India star Yuvraj Singh has ignored his team while naming a different team as the likely winner.
Yuvraj Singh was a huge part of the team that won the inaugural World Cup in 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The left-handed batter famously hit Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over during the game in Durban.
Team India will next play Afghanistan in a three-game T20I series in January. That is the only International T20I series India will play before the tournament in June. Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya will likely be the men in blue during the mega event.
Yuvraj Singh names his pick to win T20 World Cup
India’s legendary star Yuvraj Singh does not think that the Indian Cricket Team will win the T20 World Cup in 2024. The 42-year-old has named South Africa as the likely winners of the Tournament in June next year.
Speaking during an event that also featured Gautam Gambhir, the former India star said “Mera thoda doosra angle hai ki, main chahta hoon aur mujhe lagta hai ki South Africa will win”. For the record, South Africa are yet to win any global tournament despite having a rich cricketing history.
With names like David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, and some good upcoming talent one cannot ignore the Proteas side. India, on the other hand, will want to make sure that they can use all the T20 expertise to win their 2nd World Cup in this format.
Most of the Indian players would have played two months of IPL and would be well inclined towards the format. Recently skipper Rohit Sharma had indicated to finally reveal if he is set to play the mega event in June next year.
The 36-year-old has not played T20I for India since the World Cup in 2022 which was held in Australia. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav have led the side at different times. After an impressive captaincy showing during the 2023 ODI World Cup, fans are clamouring for Rohit Sharma to make a comeback to the T20I side as well.
