'Delhi ki chaat padi Vadapav pe bhari' - Fans react as Delhi defeat Mumbai by nine wickets in Women's T20 League

In the 18th Women’s T20 League match, the table toppers Mumbai locked horns against the Delhi franchise at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Monday, March 20. The Delhi side won the match by nine wickets and Marizanne Kapp was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance as she picked two wickets and gave away just 13 runs in her spell of four overs.

Batting first, the Mumbai franchise had a bad start to the innings. They lost the first four wickets at a score of just 21 runs in the first seven overs. They lost the important wickets of Yahika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt at a score of 6, Healey Mathews at 10, and Amelia Kerr’s wicket at a score of 21. 

In the powerplay, star India batter, Jemimmah Rodrigues took a stunning catch diving to his right, on the bowling of India veteran seamer Shikha Pandey. Mumbai finished the first innings at a score of 109 with the loss of eight wickets.

For the Mumbai franchise, the top scorer was their all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar who scored 26 runs off 19 balls with three fours and a six. Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and England all-rounder Issy Wong also scored crucial 23 runs each for their side.

For the Delhi franchise, two wickets each were taken by Kapp. Shikha, and by Jess Jonassen and one wicket was taken by right-arm seamer Arundhati Reddy who conceded only 10 runs in her spell of 10 overs.

Delhi while chasing a mere total of 110 runs, they chased down on the last ball of the ninth over. The opener Shefali Verma and Lanning kicked off the innings with an attacking approach. They both together put up a quick partnership of 56 runs off just 23 balls before Shefali was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs off just 15 balls which included six fours and a six.

After opener's wicket, England's Alice Capey came to bat and she along with the skipper finished the things for the Delhi side. Lanning played an unbeaten knock of 32 runs from 22 balls with 4 fours and a six and on the other hand Capsey played an quickfire knock of unbeaten 38 runs of just 17 balls with one four and five sixes.
