India clash with New Zealand in the third and final match of the three-match ODI series at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, on January 24, Monday. After losing the toss, they were asked to bat first; and Indian captain Rohit Sharma lit up the stadium with his magnificent striking and scored a century.

The Men in Blue skipper scored a century after a long wait of three years in the ODI circuit. He completed his century in just 83 balls. He hit nine fours and six sixes in his innings and finished with 101 runs in 85 balls. Rohit scored his last century on 19 January 2020, when he played an inning of 119 against Australia in Bangalore. Rohit also became the 3rd highest six-hitter in the history of ODIs.

Brilliant start by Indian openers in the 3rd ODI

The right-hander became the third player of India to score 30 centuries and also equaled the legendary Australian batter Ricky Ponting in most hundreds in ODIs. Earlier Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have done this feat. Rohit Sharma has done this feat in his 241 ODI match. Sachin holds the record for scoring the most centuries for India. Sachin has scored 49 centuries. Whereas Virat is second with 46 centuries.

Rohit Sharma shared a 212-run partnership with Shubman Gill in this match. Apart from Rohit Sharma, Gill also scored a century in this match. Both the openers took the team to a flyer as the Indian Team managed to score 82 runs in the mandatory power-play overs. The Black Caps looked clueless as both the batters were ruthless in their approach. Gill once again showed his wide range of shots and played some beautiful-looking strokes.

He continued batting brilliantly and completed his ton on the last ball of the 26th over. He smashed 112 runs off just 78 deliveries, including 13 fours and 5 sixes before getting out by Blair Tickner on the last ball of the 28th over. Earlier in the first match of the series, he became the fifth Indian to score a double century in an ODI inning.
