The last day of the 2nd Ashes 2023 Test is all set to have a thrilling finish at the Lordβs in London. The Australian team have given a 371-run target to the Three Lions. The English team are giving their 100 % to win the match as the Kangaroos have already taken a 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, England Test captain Ben Stokes has smashed a cracking century on the 5th Day of the match. England have already lost 6 wickets and they still need to chase 128 runs with 4 wickets in hand. However, Stokes led from the front and went all out on the Australian bowlers as he was dealing with boundaries only after Jonny Bairstowβs dismissal. Earlier, on the 4th day, before Jos Hazlewood made his first progress on the last day, Stokes and Ben Duckett kept things rolling from the overnight score of 114/4. He ended Stokes and Duckett’s century-plus partnership when Duckett was caught behind for 83 runs. Then, England lost the wicket of Bairstow in a contentious but fair fashion.
However, Stokes has kept his team alive in the match as he completed his ton and drove England to 243/6 at the end of the opening session, as the hosts now require another 128 runs to win. Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first, however, the Australian team displayed a brilliant batting performance in the first innings and scored 416 runs with the help of Steve Smithβs 32nd Test century.
In response, England manage to score only 325 runs as Australian bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc who came back to the squad after missing the first Test, displayed a brilliant performance by taking 3 wickets. England bundled up the Australian team on 279 runs and came to bat to chase a 371-run target.
