'Dil jeet lia'- Fans react as Virat Kohli recalls difference and pressure between 2011 and 2023 World Cup

Former India skipper Virat Kohli recalls the magnitude of winning the 2011 World Cup. He also spoke about the difference in intensity between the 2011 World Cup and the upcoming 2023 edition of the same. He had the sweet taste of the World Cup victories twice in his life one as an U-19 captain in 2008 and another as a young batter in 2011.

The then 23-year-old batter played a valuable knock of 35 runs alongside Gautam Gambhir when India lost their two openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early in the innings. He said that he still relishes playing under difficult situations even after playing 15 years of international cricket.

Speaking at a promotional event, Kohli stated despite his career highlight being the 2011 World Cup, he did not quite understand the magnitude of it then. He said, "My career highlight is obviously winning the World Cup in 2011. I was 23 at the time, and I probably didn’t understand the magnitude of it. But now at 34, and having played many World Cups, which we haven’t been able to win, So,I understand the emotions of all the senior players (in 2011)."

He said it had to be the dream World Cup for the Little Master Sachin Tendulkar, who had played five prior ODI World Cups. Saying about the legendary batter "All the more for Sachin Tendulkar, as it was his last World Cup. He had already played many World Cups by then and to win it in Mumbai, his hometown, was very special for him. I mean, it was stuff from dreams."

The 50-year-old batter was the highest run scorer for in that World Cup with 482 runs at an average of 53.55, including two centuries and two crucial half-centuries in the quarter-final and semi-final. He is also the all-time leading run scorer in the history of the World Cup with 2278 runs. On the other hand 282 runs at an average of 35.25, with a century and a half-century.
