Many fans and cricketers were furious with the Indian cricket team because of the heart-breaking loss against Bangladesh in the first match of the three-match ODI series. The Bangla Tigers snatched the victory from the hand of India by 1 wicket. India seemed to be on course to victory but wicketkeeper KL Rahul dropped an important catch of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and it proved to be the reason for India’s defeat.

After Rahul’s dropped catch, India got another chance but allrounder Washington Sundar seemed to have refused to even approach a catching opportunity. The good bowling performance from the Indian Bowlers couldn’t overshadow the bad fielding and batting display. There were high expectations from the trio of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli but they couldn’t get a significant score which hurt the team a lot.

'Overall fielding effort was 50-50'- Dinesh Karthik

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik expressed his disappointment with India’s poor fielding display and said that why Sundar did not even bother to go for that catch in the first place.

"Obviously KL Rahul's drop towards the end and Sundar not coming, don't know why he didn't come in. I don't know if it was because of the lights, which I wouldn't know, but if he had seen the ball, he should have gone for it. That's only a question he can answer. Overall fielding effort was 50-50. Not the best day, but not the worst day either. I guess in the end, with the pressure, we left some boundaries as well," said Karthik while speaking on Cricbuzz.

Many fans and former cricketers believe that India doesn’t have gun fielders now. The likes of Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh are no longer on the side and one of the current best fielders in Ravindra Jadeja is out injured. Hardik Pandya is rested for the tour, and the only fielder who is keeping the fielding standards high right now is Kohli.

Talking about the series, India will look to bounce back in the second match of the ODI series as it will be a do-or-die match for the Men in Blue.
