The 64th match of the Indian Premier League was played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 17. As expected, DC have started ruining the party for other teams now as they defeated PBKS by 15 runs and made it difficult for PBKS to qualify for the playoffs.

Talking about the match, PBKS opted to bowl first after winning the toss but their decision proved wrong as DC opener David Warner and Prithvi Shaw provided a cracking start to the team in the powerplay. However, they started slowly as in the first 2 overs they scored 6 runs but after getting settled they shifted gears and stitched a 94-run stand for the first wicket.

PBKS star allrounder Sam Curran finally provided a breakthrough in the 11th over by dismissing Warner on the score of 46 runs in which 5 fours and 2 sixes were included. Later, Rilee Rossouw joined hands with Shaw and both continued the attack. Shaw also departed soon in the 15th over after smashing a much-need half-century. which included 7 fours and 1 six.

Rossouw smashed 82 runs off just 37 balls, and during his innings, he hit 6 fours and 6 sixes. Philip Salt also contributed with a quick cameo of 14-ball 26 at the end and helped the team to achieve a monumental total of 213 runs. Curran was the only successful bowler from PBKS who picked up 2 wickets and conceded only 36 runs in his 4 overs quota.

Brilliant effort by Liam Livingstone at the end

Chasing the target, PBKS started badly as DC pacer Khaleel Ahmed bowled the first maiden, and in the very PBKS suffered a huge blow when Shikhar Dhawan got out on a golden duck. However, later, Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide started showing intent and stitched a 50-run stand for the 2nd wicket. After the departure of Taide, it looked like DC will bind the PBKS batting lineup early.

But that didn't happen as the big show Liam Livingstone entered the ground and displayed some destructive shots and played a breathtaking knock of 94 runs off just 48 balls which included 5 fours and 9 sixes but it went in vain as PBKS fell short of 15 runs and with this loss their hope for the playoffs qualification also became difficult.
