The 2023 World Cup will be held in India. When it comes to players to watch out for, all of the Indian fans will be hoping that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will come good. Ahead of the big tournament, England batter Joe Root made a very interesting statement and said that age should not be a criterion for the likes of Rohit and Kohli.

Kohli and Rohit are playing in the Asia Cup and both of them have started to hit form. While Rohit struck fifties in the games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka,  Kohli smashed his 47th ODI Hundred against Pakistan and showed the cricketing world that he is getting back into beast mode ahead of the World Cup. The two will be India's main batters for the big event.

That is not for me to say- Joe Root on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's replacements

"I think it's very dangerous just to write off players like Virat and Rohit because of their age. Look at how long Chris Gayle, for example, played T20 cricket. Some of the best players in the world have gone longer, especially in T20 cricket, and have been wonderful with their performances. As long as you're fit, you go on and play," Root said to the Times of India in an interview.

When the question of finding replacements for the Kohli-Rohit duo came about Root tried to sidestep the question and said it is not for him to answer. "That's very difficult to answer. That's not for me to say. The two of them are wonderful players across all formats, leading players, and have both had to shoulder a lot of pressure for a number of years. When it comes to representing India, it's impressive how consistent they've been for such a long period of time,"  Root added.

Team India will want to win the Asia Cup to get some solid momentum ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. They will want to use the energy from the fans to go all the way in the tournament. The Men in Blue last won a World event in 2013.
