Bangladesh opener Litton Das has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023. Anamul Haque Bijoy will be replacing him in the Bangladesh squad for the continental tournament. He has been ruled out due to a viral fever. The Bangladesh Cricket Board said Liton has been unable to travel.

Bijoy, whose last ODI appearance for Bangladesh was in December against India, was due to join the Bangladesh squad later Wednesday ahead of their opening match against the co-hosts Sri Lanka in Kandy on Thursday. They will play their first match against Sri Lanka.

He was training in Chattogram under the Bangladesh Tigers program, and will now join the team in Sri Lanka. BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin opened up on the development, giving the reason behind picking Anamul Haque as a replacement for Liton Das.

Liton is suffering from fever, he tested negative for Dengue: Minhajul Abedin

BCB's Cricket Operations Committee chairman, Jalal Yunus, "Liton is suffering from fever. He tested negative for Dengue. So if he recovers early, he will take the next flight to Sri Lanka. But if he does not recover, then we may have to think about a replacement."

Minhajul was quoted as saying in the press release, "Liton is suffering from fever. He tested negative for Dengue. So if he recovers early, he will take the next flight to Sri Lanka. But if he does not recover, then we may have to think about a replacement." "He has been in the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration. Due to Liton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod."

The 30-year-old right-hander has played 44 one-day internationals and scored 1,254 runs, including three centuries. Bangladesh are set to commence their Asia Cup journey on August 31st in Kandy. They will travel to Pakistan for their second match against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh is without Tamim Iqbal for the major event, with the youngster Tanzid Tamim as another option in the top order.
