Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has stated that he would want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal replace Ishan Kishan as India's opener in the second T20I against West Indies on Sunday. Jaffer hailed Jaiswal's magnificent 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Hardik Pandya's Team India was defeated by the hosts in the opening T20I of the three-match series on Thursday. The West Indies, defeated India's second-string team by four runs in a final-over thriller at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer stated that it would be perfect to give Jaiswal a chance following his outstanding performance in the IPL this season, adding that the 21-year-old into the side is a change he is looking forward to. Jaffer stated, "I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal."

"He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season," he added.

The 45-year-old said, "Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL? He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change. The first T20I was played on a difficult pitch, so expecting them to play in that fashion (free-flowing mode) is too much expectation. It’s crucial to see the pitch for the second T20I. If it’s good enough, then our batters will obviously play well."

The Mumbai batsman earned his Test debut in the West Indies lately. The left-handed batter scored 266 runs in two Tests, with a highest of 171 on debut. He scored 625 runs in 14 IPL games at a strike rate of 163.61, with one century and five half-centuries. India will play their second T20I on Sunday at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
