Barbados Royals got off to a terrible start in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, losing to Saint Lucia Kings by 54 runs in their opening match of the tournament on Friday, August 18. It was a one-sided contest with the Kings taking complete control of the game. Chasing 202, the Royals had a disastrous start when opener Rahkeem Cornwall carelessly ran himself out on the very first ball.

Known as the heaviest man in international cricket, Cornwall was too short at the crease as he looked to take a risky single. With a big target in front of them, Royals needed a cracking start but the heavy man was unable to run quickly between the wickets and gave Kings the upper hand early in the innings.

The right-hander flicked a delivery off Matthew Forde towards Chris Sole at short fine-leg and he jog through for a single. Sole, who fumbled while grabbing the ball, had enough time to dismiss him with a direct hit. The video of Cornwall's lazy run out has gone viral on social media with fans giving hilarious reactions to it.

I can't say that I'm too tall or too big: Cornwall

The Caribbean all-rounder catches the attention of cricket fans every time he comes onto the field. He has always been a topic of debate among fans, former cricketers and pundits for his poor fitness. Many have suggested that the 30-year-old needs to control his weight, but he doesn't care about his body structure and is instead confident in his abilities.

"I can't change my body structure. I can't say that I'm too tall or too big. Everybody is not going to be short, everybody is not going to be slim. All I can do is go out there, back myself and show my skill," Cornwall had said in a chat on ESPNCricinfo.

"There's no doubt about it I am a big guy, but I have to put in work. I don't really get too bogged down and lazy about it. I spend a lot of time on my fitness. Try to eat properly," he added.

Coming back to the match, Cornwall's team could only manage 147 runs as they helped Kings register their first win of the tournament after losing to Jamaica Talawas in the first game on Thursday.
