The 2024 Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Katowice hosted by ESL is set to start on January 31. It is one of the most popular esports events for Counter-Strike 2.
Multiple top-tier teams compete in IEM events each year. Similar to last year, the event is featuring an impressive prize pool of $ 1 million. Winners of the IEM Katowice will also secure a spot in IEM Cologne and the BLAST Premier World Final.

IEM Katowice format and match-ups
Matches for IEM Katowice will be played in three stages - Play-In, Group Stage, and the Playoffs.
- Play-In
Play-In will feature 16 teams in a double-elimination bracket. All teams will start from the puppet brackets. Losing teams will move to the lower bracket for another chance to reach the Group stages.
- Group Stages
Eight out of 24 teams have directly qualified for the Group Stages. Eight more will join them from the Play-In. Group Stage matches will be divided into two stages each with eight teams in double elimination matches.
- Playoffs
Two teams from an upper bracket in the group stage and one from a lower bracket will move to the Playoffs. This allies to both groups in the Group Stages.
First-position teams will be in the semifinals of the playoffs while the lower seed winners and the second position will have to face each other in the quarter-finals. The winner will take home $400,000 along with the title of the first IEM Katowice winner of CS2.
