Indian cricketers are currently on a much-needed break after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Some players are spending time with their families, while others decided to go on a vacation. Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was also on vacation recently with his daughter and wife.
Meanwhile, India’s middle-order batter in the white ball format, Sanju Samson, who was recently in action in IPL 2023, posted a picture on his Instagram handle where he can be seen posing with the former legendary cricketers, Brian Lara and Shane Bond. Many fans have reacted to the picture and have praised Samson for spending time with the cricket legends.
Can Samson utilise this opportunity?
Samson made his ODI debut in 2021 against Sri Lanka but got to play only 1 match. However, he has been called up to the Indian ODI team for the three-match series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to start on July 27 after the end of the two-match Test series. KL Rahul, who has been sidelined since May with an injury, is replaced by him.
Samson is one of the two wicketkeepers chosen for the 17-player Indian squad, along with Ishan Kishan. Samson has played in 11 ODIs and averages 66 with a strike rate of 104.76. He last played in the 50-over format in November against New Zealand and will be aiming to establish a name for himself in this opportunity a few months before the ODI World Cup. Kishan was a part of India's most recent ODI series against Australia. However, both have a brilliant chance to cement their place in the squad in Rishabh Pant's absence.
India’s ODI squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
