Every team in Group C had the chance to get into the FIFA World Cup 2022 on the last day of the Group match. Argentina went through with a 2-0 win but Poland, despite a loss headed into the Round of 16. Let's look at how the two games panned out in Qatar.
Poland vs Argentina
Argentina were given a shocker in the first match as they were thumped by Saudi Arabia in their first match. Then after, however, they defeated Mexico quite convincingly and went into the Poland match as favourites. The Lionel Messi-led side played on the front foot from the word get-go as they created chance after chance. In the 39th minute, Messi won a penalty but the Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny produced a keeping masterclass to thwart the chance.
Poland however could not defend for long as Alexis Mac Allister broke the deadlock in the 46th minute to give Argentina the lead. Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez doubled the lead in the 67th minute
Saudi Arabia vs Mexico
Mexico needed a win as well as a better goal difference than Poland to get through. The North American team did everything possible to turn the tide in their favour. With two goals from Henry Martin and Luis Chavez Mexico equalised Poland on points as well as on goal difference.
Their hearts were broken like by Saudi Arabia however as Salem Al- Dawsari scored a goal in the dying embers of the match to bring Mexico out of the FIFA World Cup with themselves.
