Poland and Saudi Arabia faced off against each other in a Group C match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar on November 26, Saturday at the Education City stadium. The match saw the Polish side triumph over Saudi Arabia, who pulled off an emphatic win against Argentina in their first encounter of the ongoing campaign.
It was Piotr Zieliński who produced the lead for Poland in the 39th minute as he pushed the ball through the goalkeeper’s hands onto the nets. However, Saudi Arabia never recovered in the first half and went on miss out on a great opportunity during the extra time in the first 45 minutes.
Salem Aldawsari, who scored the winning goal against Argentina, failed to capitalize on the same and the team’s morale took a hit before heading into the deciding half. It was not it as Poland’s defence kept Saudi Arabia quiet throughout the game, although it was the latter who held possession for almost two-thirds of the epic game.
Poland continue dominance in FIFA World Cup 2022
Poland and Saudi Arabia are early favourites from the group to make it to the knockouts, although Lionel Messi and his men have all the chances to outclass either of these two teams by winning their remaining matches.
The Polish side have been continuing their dominance in the tournament, given that they had a hard-fought opening encounter against Mexico in their first game that ended in a draw despite giving it their all. While Hervé Renard’s men tried their best to score the equaliser, the Polish side kept coming up with a strong defence, not letting their mighty opponents take the game away from them. Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead in the 82nd minute and strengthened Poland's chances of taking home the 3 points.
The Al-Suqour Al-Khodhur would have to work hard post their defeat against Poland on Saturday and would hope to make a comeback in their next encounter against Mexico to be played on Thursday. As far as Poland are concerned, they will have to face Argentina in their final group-stage match and it will be vital for them to make it count if at all they have to make it through.
