Jasprit Bumrah, an India seamer who hasn't played since the T20Is against Australia in September of last year, is probably going to play in the three T20Is against Ireland in August. Bumrah is making good progress and may very well be at his peak fitness when he returns in the blues, News18 CricketNext has reliable information. After having back surgery in March of this year, the seamer undertook a protracted rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Bumrah will get some much-needed playing time during the Ireland series before two critical white-ball competitions. India plays in the Asia Cup in September following the three T20I matches, and then turns its focus to the 50-over World Cup that will be held at home in October and November. The signs of Bumrah's return for the Ireland series, according to a senior board official monitoring the seamers' recovery, are quite positive.

‘Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series’ – Senior Board official

“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take field,” says the official.

Bumrah has been under the cautious eye of NCA chairman VVS Laxman, Nitin Patel, who is the chairman Sports Science and Medicine department, ever since he entered the NCA for the protracted recovery process till the time he exits as an athlete back to full fitness. Patel had previously worked as the head physio for the Mumbai Indians and the Indian cricket team. At the NCA, he got the chance to work closely with the seamer.

In addition to VVS Laxman and Patel, S Rajnikanth, the physio at NCA and a former member of the Delhi Capitals support team, has been closely collaborating with the Indian seamer to make sure his recovery is progressing as planned. In the past, Rajnikanth has assisted athletes with major injuries like Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya in their recovery.

“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,” adds the official.
