The Manchester City forward led Argentina's attack alongside Messi as the Albiceleste won their first World Cup in 36 years, in Qatar. The pair are poised to reunite for Lionel Scaloni's team at the Copa America this summer, which could be Messi's final appearance for Argentina.

Alvarez said he hopes the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner continues to play for his country. Messi is Argentina's all-time leading goal scorer with 106, 50 more than second-placed Gabriel Batistuta, whom he surpassed in 2016. He also overtook Batistuta as Argentina's top scorer at the World Cup by scoring seven times in Qatar.

It will depend on him: Julian Alvarez

Alvarez said, "It will depend on him but I think if he wants to he can do it comfortably. Yes we do too. "And then when I went to the senior team I got another point of view. It’s something crazy but also really nice and I try to enjoy every moment playing with him. And I’m very proud of everything we’ve achieved with the national team in this time and which he got after searching for it so long." Alvarez was quoted as saying by The Goal.

"I have that feeling, but it’s not just him and his demands, it’s a bit of us too," Alvarez says. "We’re very competitive and we always want to go for more and that’s what we’re doing this season, trying to do it again."
