The last time Australia lost an Ashes series was way back in 2015. That was former skipper Michael Clarke's last series as a player and as a captain. After this series, he announced his retirement and Steve Smith took over the ODI format. The Kangaroos lost the series by 3-2, having won the second and fifth games of the series.

Since then, they are yet to lose an Ashes series. In the 2017-18 series, the Three Lions failed to win a single game with the fourth game ending in a draw. In the 2019 series, the visitors played better cricket than the host in most games. However, the Aussies failing to take the last wicket in the third game and electing to field first in the last game meant they had to settle with a 2-2 draw.

However, this was the first time when they retain an Ashes series in the United Kingdom after 2001. 22 years back, the then Steve Waught-led thrashed the Poms 4-1. Meanwhile, in the first-ever Ashes series played during a pandemic in 2021-22, the then Joe Root-led side lost 4-0, having managed to escape with a draw in the fourth Test only with one wicket in hand.

In what was another gripping Ashes series in the European country, the series ended 2-2. The Aussies had a great start in the series after taking a 2-0 lead. However, the home side managed to make a comeback in the third game. They might have won the fourth game too if not for the rain in the last two days of the match.

In the last game of the series last week, Australia looked like winning the game till Day four. However, on Day five, they failed to chase down 384 runs and lost the game. With this, the series ended 2-2. Meanwhile, Barmy Army, England Fan Club posted a tweet about Australia not winning an Ashes series in the UK from the last 8011 days.

In reply, former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann asked the club when was the last time England won the Ashes series. This has led to fans throwing mud of words against each other.
