India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is making a comeback after a long injury layoff. Due to his back injury last July, he has played only one game till now. Bumrah missed out on the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup last year. Apart from this, he missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, World Test Championship Final 2023, and the IPL 2023 apart from a few bilateral series.

In January this year, the Mumbai Indians player went through back surgery. It was said that the right-armer will be back in action in August this year even though his premature comeback was speculated early this year. However, the team management and the board decided not to risk him unlike the former party did last September. Meanwhile, ahead of the first T20I, former India Test opening batter Wasim Jaffer shared a meme on Bumrah.

Meanwhile. during the West Indies, the coaching staff decided to organize a camp related to Asia Cup 2023. After the series, the players who will be named will be in Sri Lanka for the camps. This is why, Hardik Pandya, who was set to lead the Men In Blue against Ireland as well, has been rested.

In his place, Bumrah is leading the side. Ahead of the first game, the five-time IPL winner spoke to the media.

"I respect people’s opinion, but good or bad, I don’t take them seriously. I don’t want to put the baggage of expectation on myself. Neither do I have unrealistic expectations from myself regarding the load I have to carry. I have never been away from cricket so long. I want to enjoy the game."

"Other people’s expectations are their problem. My is job to enjoy the game, prepare best and put my best foot forward. I am doing that and, hopefully, everything will take care of itself," he added.

Notably, the weather forecast around the game say that the rain may play spoilsport during the game.
