UFC lightweight star Justin Gaethje shook the world after he defeated Dustin Poirier with a second-round head kick and won his first-ever “BMF” title on Sunday, 30 July at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. With this win, ‘The Highlight’ also avenged his 2018 loss to ‘The Diamond’. However, now it’d be interesting to see if both the fighters will fight in a trilogy or not.
Meanwhile, another lightweight star Michael Chandler has made a bold statement related to Gaethje. He believes that Gaethje can beat UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and the title challenger Charles Oliveira. Makhachev and Oliveira will be clashing against each other for the lightweight championship in the main event of UFC 294 on October 21.
“Justin Gaethje is no longer just a pugilist who goes out there and swings for the fences and wants to brawl. Gaethje is on a quest to win a world title, and I think Justin Gaethje will go out there and win a world title. Whether it’s Makhachev or Oliveira, Gaethje’s going to get that title fight next," Chandler was quoted as saying by the MMA Junkie.
Gaethje is the UFC lightweight champion by the first quarter of next year: Michael Chandler
Chandler earlier made a bold prediction when he chose Gaejthe over Poirier as the winner of their fight. He again made a bold prediction as he believes that Gaethje will become the lightweight champion by the next year. Chandler said that Gaethje has brilliant cardio, speed, power and an amazing defence.
“I think Justin Gaethje is the UFC lightweight champion by the first quarter of next year. I think he beats Islam. I think he beats Oliveira. Justin Gaethje has cleaned up. He already had all the attributes, he already had the cardio, the speed, the power, and he’s got great wrestling defence. He already had all the attributes. But now, him honing in those skills, it’s gonna be tough for one of those dudes to beat him, I think,” he added.
