Larian Studios, the developers of Baldur's Gate 3 are still churning out multiple quality-of-life updates to the game. These updates range from various bugs and crash fixes to optimizations and several other things. These updates are not all necessary but come as the developers care.

With all that said, players will also get official mod support for Baldur's Gate 3 soon. The announcement comes from the Director of Publishing at Larian, Michael Douse, who revealed that mods will also be supported for Consoles.

“We generally don’t talk about things till they’re ready, but as you may have read, we’re making an exception. We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later this year,” Douse wrote.

What are game mods?

Mods are community-made assets that modify a game file to change things. Modding is one of the best tools to keep a game alive for a long time. Several other single-player games are also popular for their mod support.

Some of the most popular ones include Elden Ring and many Bethesda and CDPR games. Many other games also support mods in both direct and indirect ways.

As for the reason, it is best explained in Douse’s own words, “We love our modding community, and we want to support them”.

Baldur's Gate 3 currently do support mods, however, no official support means frequent updates end up breaking them. This prompts many to reinstall the mods or to time the entire game, which is almost 150GB download. To fix this, the developers are making the mod support official.

The system for official support is ready but still needs testing and some more work as per Douse. More updates on this will be provided on the official Discord for Baldur's Gate 3.
