With multiple gaming studios being taken over by big gaming firms in recent years, fans were wondering about the fate of Polish video game development studio, CD Projekt Red (CDPR).
Clearing the air, CEO of CDPR, Adam Kiciński during an interview with Polish outlet Parkiet revealed that the studio is not looking to get acquired any time soon. In-fact, the studio is looking to grow on their own and may acquire other studios.
“We are not interested in being included in any larger entity. We have worked our whole lives to get to the position we have now. And we believe that in a few years we will be even bigger and stronger. We have ambitious plans, and we are passionate about what we do. We value independence,” Kiciński said.
CDPR made a name for themselves with the release of The Witcher series, especially with Witcher 3 along with Gwent. While Cyberpunk 2077 did find itself in a bit of a disaster as the game became too ambitious, the studio over the last 2 years have made a full 360 and impressed everyone with constant updates.
Considering the studio already have multiple games in work, including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 codename “Orion”, a new Witcher series codename “Polaris” and a remake of the original Witcher game, it is safe to say that they will not be working under anyone anytime soon.
Kicińsk also revealed project “Hadar” saying while it is just a concept, they believe it will go well with Witcher and Cyberpunk. Last year, the studio launched the first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty that received a great reception from gamers.
As of 2024, Polaris is reportedly in full swing, with over 300 people working on development. No further announcement for this is currently out by CDPR, as the games are still early in development.
