After enduring a dismal performance on Day 1 of the World Test Championship 2023 Final, India aimed to start Day 2 on a positive note. Australia had amassed 327 runs for the loss of 3 wickets on the previous day, with Steve Smith and Travis Head firmly settled at the crease.

India experienced an ideal start on Day 2, clinching four crucial wickets during the first session. Head and Smith had formed a formidable partnership, accumulating a remarkable 285 runs for the 4th wicket, with individual scores of 163 and 121, respectively. Following that, India swiftly secured several consecutive wickets, putting Australia on the defensive.

Alex Carey played a brief cameo, contributing 48 runs as Australia reached a total of 469 runs in their first innings. Among the Indian bowlers, Mohammed Siraj particularly shone with an impressive four-wicket haul in the first innings. Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur each secured two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with one wicket. Unfortunately, Umesh Yadav encountered difficulties in leaving an impact, failing to take any wickets.

In the second innings, Rohit and Shubman Gill accumulated some quick runs, scoring some impressive boundaries in the initial phases. However, their partnership was abruptly ended as both openers were dismissed in successive overs, resulting in a modest total of 30 runs. Shortly after, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli also fell victim to dismissals, adding to the team's woes.

At a score of 71 runs with four wickets down, India witnessed a crucial partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Jadeja. Their collaborative efforts resulted in a 71-run partnership, with Rahane assuming the role of the innings' backbone. Rahane received a fortunate break when he survived a close call, being dismissed on a no-ball, but he persevered and continued playing.

On the other hand, just as Jadeja seemed prepared to take charge of the innings, Nathan Lyon dismissed him after he had scored 48 runs off 51 balls. Subsequently, KS Bharat joined Rahane, and the two batsmen managed to successfully navigate through the remainder of the day. India currently has a total of 151 runs after losing 5 wickets. They are presently 318 runs behind Australia's score.
