Both teams were still in it to win it at the end of the first Ashes Test between Australia and India, which turned out to be a nail-biter. Last but not least, Australia's captain Pat Cummins and spinner Nathan Lyon's outstanding partnership allowed them to successfully chase down the 281-run goal. After scoring the winning runs for his team and establishing a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, Cummins struggled to contain his emotions.
What happened next demonstrated the significance of the triumph. Cummins put down the bat and helmet as Australia sealed the match and ran jubilantly around the pitch. He even carried Lyon in his arms as he extravagantly toasted his victory. Following Australia’s victory, an English Newspaper came up with a hilarious headline that said ‘A real kick in the bazballs’. The headline has become a fan-favourite in no time and a large number of users have reacted to the same.

Australia now share the record for the joint-highest score chased by any visiting team in Tests at Edgbaston
After weather forced the game's delayed start on the fifth day, England performed admirably. The early dismissals of players like Scott Boland, Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Alex Carey helped the hosts take the lead, but Cummins and Lyon's challenge was no longer relevant given their early dismissals. Lyon kept Cummins company admirably with 16 off 28 as he went on to hit 44 runs off 73 balls. Their 55-run partnership for the ninth wicket destroyed England's chances of grabbing the series lead.
To put things in perspective, South Africa also chased down 281, the joint-highest score that a visiting team has attempted to reach at Edgbaston. Overall, the 55-run partnership between Cummins and Lyon during a successful run-chase was the 4th-highest in Test cricket history for the 9th wicket. Australia's successful 282-run chase ranks fourth-highest in Ashes history. After losing the first Test, England will try to make amends in the next games.
