India Women's cricket team has assured themselves of a silver or gold medal as they qualified for the 2023 Asian Games final. The Women in Blue thrashed Bangladesh Women by 8 wickets in the semi-final 1 in Hangzhou on Sunday, September 24. Smriti Mandhana's team will now face the winners of Pakistan Women vs Sri Lanka Women in a summit clash on Monday.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, but they could not withstand the ferocious bowling attack of Team India led by Pooja Vastrakar. The right-arm medium pacer rattled the opponent's batting unit with a four-wicket haul. Vastrakar removed both the openers in the very first over, and in the fifth over, she sent back Sobhana Mostary to take the game away from Bangladesh.

The 23-year-old claimed one more wicket in the 13th over to register her career-best T20I figures of 4 for 17. Titas Sadhu, Amanjot Kaur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Devika Vaidya also took one wicket each as India restricted Bangladesh to a paltry score of 51 runs in 17.5 overs.

Jemimah Rodrigues hit the winning runs for Indiaย

In reply, India lost the wicket of Smriti Mandhana early on, but Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues ensured they wouldn't mess up the chase. Verma departed after scoring 17 off 21 balls while Rodrigues remained unbeaten on 20 runs off 15 balls and guided India to victory. With just two runs needed to win, Rodrigues hit the winning runs to seal India's victory by eight wickets at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field.

While the women's cricket team secured at least a silver medal in the ongoing event, India also pocketed two silvers in rowing and shooting on Sunday. It's a proud moment for all Indians and fans are praising the girls on social media. They are looking forward to the final as India are likely to face arch-rivals Pakistan. Meanwhile, India's men's cricket team will begin their campaign on October 3 and fans will expect similar dominance from the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side.
