In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma is going through a dry spell. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has some unusual advice for the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper. India's skipper Rohit, the most successful captain in the history of the lucrative league, has led Mumbai to five IPL championships. Rohit has had trouble finding his form in the past two IPL seasons despite being one of the best batters in IPL history.

Rohit, often known as "The Hitman," finished the previous year's IPL season with a bang. In the IPL 2022, the MI captain failed to register a half-century. For the Mumbai Paltan in the current season of the cash-rich league, Rohit has also struggled to score. In the IPL 2023, Rohit has only reached one half-century so far. In 11 games this season, the senior batter has a below-average average of 17.36, scoring only 191 runs.

Rohit Sharma could only manage 7 off 8 balls against RCB

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri expressed his opinions regarding the miserable performance of the MI captain in the IPL 2023 and said that Rohit's shot selection is not the best. "I think give yourself a little bit more time. His shot selection is not the greatest. He mentioned he has a different role to play. But give yourself that little bit more time; his great strength is his ability to play cricketing shots, and he has more time than a lot of players in the world when it comes to playing the quicks," Shastri told Star Sports.

In Mumbai's encounter against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rohit was dismissed for a duck. "Back your strength, don't try and be too cute too early. You have got all the shots in the book; you can make up later on. Just a little bit more time in the first 6 balls or so. Play more cricketing shots rather than trying to improvise early on," Shastri added.

Rohit had another forgettable batting performance for the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. In game 54 of the IPL 2023 between the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, the MI captain was out for 7 off 8 balls. Rohit has played in 238 IPL games and scored 6070 runs.
