The defending champions of the Indian T20 League, Gujarat are all set for action in the 16th edition of the league. They will be starting their campaign in the opening match on March 31 against the four-time champions Chennai at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya-led side dominated the 15th season and will look to continue it in the upcoming season as well.
The franchise also made some interesting additions to their squad as they broke the bank for the former Kolkata bowler Shivam Mavi. They also signed Ireland's young sensational fast bowler Joshua Little. But the most-talked-about addition was Kane Williamson. Here we will take a look at Gujarat's strongest playing XI.
Top Order
India's talented young opener Shubman Gill will use his red-hot form as he will be opening the innings with wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, who performed really well last season scoring 317 runs in just 11 games. Former Hyderabad skipper Williamson is likely to bat at three for Gujarat this season.
Middle-order
Gujarat's skipper Hardik Pandya should be seen batting at no. 4. He also played an important role last season as he was the highest scorer for the team with 487 runs to his name. South Africa's star left-handed batter David Miller will be playing the finisher role, just like last season. Miller will probably miss the initial matches of the league due to national duties.
All-rounders
Rahul Tewatia first showed his true hitting ability when he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for 5 sixes in an over. He performed admirably for Gujarat last season and will be a key player for the team this year as well. On the other hand, Rashid Khan will continue to trap the batters with his spin and will also try to give some good finishing touch with the bat as well.
Bowlers:
Indian speedster Mohammed Shami bowled brilliantly for the franchise by providing some early breakthroughs. He will be accompanied by Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph. Gujarat will have another spin bowling option as they are likely to include Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore in the eleven.
Here's Gujarat's strongest XI:
Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Kane Williamson, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore
