Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Jamaica Tallawahs by 81 runs in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. They have qualified for the final and will meet Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) on Monday, September 25. Batting first, Guyana scored 182/6 and in reply, Tallahwahs were bowled out for just 101 runs.

Tallawahs captain Brandon King won the toss and opted to field first. Amazon Warriors made a decent start in their batting powerplay, scoring 49 for the loss of one wicket. Their middle orders batter struggled to build the innings and attack the opposition bowlers.

However, Azam Khan produced a brilliant knock for Amazon Warriors, scoring 54 off just 34 deliveries with five fours and four sixes. A handy cameo from Shai Hope (40 off 33), Shimron Hetmyer (31 off 29) and Romario Shepherd (15 off 8) gave them a competitive total.

Chasing a target of 183, Tallawahs did not get the start they needed as they lost four wickets in the first six overs. Tallawahs were never in the game. Imad Wasim scored 43 runs and was unbeaten till the end, but no one stayed with him as the defending champions were bowled out for a paltry score.

Speaking after the match, Amazon Warriors skipper Imran Tahir said, "Feel really proud. Everyone chipped in and it's been the story for the whole season. They worked really hard and really good to see Azam get some runs. Really happy to see both Azam and Hetmyer get some runs today. We have been in this situations many times before, including myself, you have to have some nerves."

"We deserve to be in the final for the way we played throughout the competition. We got stability with the bat, we did speak about it. We just need to focus to play the game with freedom and execute our plans (talking about the preparations for the final). We are hoping that he (Keemo Paul) will be fit for the final and he really wants to do something special for the team. Thanks to all the crowd and all the Guyanese people all around the world for your support," the Proteas spinner added.
