India and Pakistan were set to face off in the Super 4 match of the 2023 Asia Cup on Sunday, September 10 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Following Babar Azam's decision to bowl first, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided India with a rapid start. Nevertheless, Pakistan made a strong comeback by swiftly taking the wickets of the openers, bringing India's score to 123/2 in just 17.5 overs.
Citing this rain interruption there were multiple umpire interruptions that were scheduled so that the umpires could look at the condition of the pitch as well as the ground and give a go-ahead to both the teams for play resumption. While they were inspecting the ground the umpires found a patch on the ground which was comparatively wet and needed to be perfected so that it was safe for the play to carry on. Considering this instruction, the ground personnel were observed employing an unconventional method to expedite the outfield drying process, which involved using electric fans.

India and Pakistan match will resume on reserve day
During the early part of the day, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took the initiative against Pakistan's formidable pace attack. While Shubman offered a couple of opportunities, Pakistan couldn't capitalize. The duo established a solid partnership of 121 runs before Rohit miscued a shot and was caught by long-off fielder Faheem Ashraf off Shadab Khan's bowling. In the very next over, Shubman lost his wicket, hitting a fullish delivery straight to Salman Ali Agha at cover.
At the time of the rain interruption, India had reached 147/2 in 24.1 overs. Virat Kohli was at the crease with 8 runs not out from 16 balls, and KL Rahul had amassed 17 runs undefeated from 28 deliveries, combining for a total partnership of 24 runs for India. After a considerable delay, the umpires determined that it was not feasible to continue the match on the same day.
Consequently, the game will now move to the reserve day, which is scheduled for Monday, September 11. When play resumes, India will resume their innings at 147/2, and the contest will continue as a 50-over match, promising an exciting continuation of the Asia Cup 2023 encounter between these two arch-rivals.
