World’s no.1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav makes his debut against Australia in the first Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. In absence of star batter Rishabh Pant, team management has preferred Surya ahead of Shubman Gill.

Along with Surya, wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat also makes his debut for India in the Nagpur test. Former Coach Ravi Shastri presented ‘Baggy Blue’ to Surya while ace batter Cheteshwar Pujara handed the Test cap to Bharat. The Indian Cricket Board called the families of Both Surya and Bharat to witness the facilitation ceremony from the ground.

Suryakumar Yadav plays for Mumbai in domestics and has been known as a striking batter. In his first-class career, Yadav has scored 5,173 runs in 76 matches at an average of 43.47. He has also smashed 13 centuries and 26 half-centuries. The 32-year-old batter becomes the first Indian player to debut in all three formats for India after 30 years.

On the other hand, KS Bharat, who plays for Andhra Pradesh, has been phenomenal in domestic cricket. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper batter has played 86 first-class matches and has scored 4707 runs at an average of 38. He has scored nine centuries and 27 half-centuries in his first-class career.

India takes on Australia in a very important series

Talking about the match, Pat Cummins won the much-needed Toss and choose to Bat first on a spin-friendly track. Spinner Todd Murphy made his debut for the visitors who are hit by several injuries. He was facilitated by ace spinner Nathan Lyon.

Team India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, will be looking to win the series to qualify for Test Championship comfortably. India will need to win the series by the difference of two or more matches if they want to qualify for on their own. Although Pat Cummins and Co. will be looking to win the Test series in India after almost two decades.
