Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has been imposed a fine of 10% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the recently-ended match against Lucknow Suer Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, LSG spinner Amit Mishra was also reprimanded for the same on Saturday.
Klaasen was admitted to Level 1 offence under Article 2.7 which corresponds to the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct. While Mishra was charged with Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 which related to the abuse of equipment during the match. One of the tournament's highest wicket-takers accepted the sanction.
The game was disrupted by the unfortunate incident between a section of spectators and LSG members near their dugout during SRH’s innings. The incident took place following the no-ball controversy in the second over. Avesh Khan bowled a waist-high full toss to Abdul Samad which was signalled no-ball by the umpire. After that, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya decided to take the DRS to challenge the decision. However, in the reply, it was clearly seen that the ball was above the waist height but still the TV umpire decided to reverse the decision.
Disappointed with the crowd: Klaasen
However, Klaasen wasn’t happy with the decision as he lashed out at the crowd by stating that their behaviour broke the team's momentum. The South African also slammed the umpires for the terrible decision-making, later stating that it is a part of the game. He also reflected on his innings against LSG.
“Disappointed with the crowd. That's not what you want at the venue. Very disappointed (because) that broke our momentum. Not a great umpiring decision being made there, but it's part of the game,” Klaasen said at the Post-Match presentation.
“The wicket changed quickly in the middle. There was some spin and decent amount of bounce, there were a few rippers (by Krunal - Markram and Phillips' wicket.) That broke the moment, it was difficult to play the harder length balls. Need to bowl length and slower ones into the wicket, can't be too full. It's not a bad wicket, but it's a bit slow,” he added.
