Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli was in dominating form as he got to his 46th ODI hundred in the 3rd and final match of the series against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, January 15. Kohli played a chanceless knock and this is his 3rd ODI hundred in his last 4 innings, sending a warning notice to the rest of the world in the ODI World Cup year.
He played an unbeaten knock of 166 runs to help his team secure a historic win. Having taken his time to score the 71st international ton from 70th, Kohli now has 74 triple-digit scores to his name. Former Pakistan captain, Salman Butt credited Kohli for his fitness and drew his comparisons with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking on his YouTube channel about Kohli’s electrifying knock against the Dasun Shanaka-led side on Sunday, Butt said, “He’s no less than any Ronaldo. Among all the top fitness freaks sportsmen around the world, he stands right up there,” he said.
Butt said that the Indian star batter is back to normal, as he used to be. He praised Kohli for taking his time to get set in the middle before belting every ball out of the boundary line.
“I think Virat Kohli is back to his best, maybe back to his normal. He used to score plenty of runs and hundreds consistently. This is the absolute way of playing ODI. You make a steady start, play ball-by-ball, put away bad balls and score run on good deliveries. Once fully set, he was consistently able to hit it over the boundary easily. There was a low-risk factor. This shows how much control he has over the game when he is on the song," Butt added.
Meanwhile, the former India captain will be back in action against New Zealand in the three-match ODI series, starting on Wednesday, January 18. Kohli is just three centuries short of equaling legendary Sachin Tendulkar's all-time ODI record of 49 hundreds.
