'I felt it was a fantastic catch'- MS Dhoni takes dig at IPL for denying him 'best catch award' in the clash against SRH

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni took a dig at the Indian Premier League after his team’s victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in match number 29 of the season at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. At the post-match presentation, Dhoni aimed a complaint at the broadcasters of the tournament after being denied a post-match award for his catch behind the stumps to dismiss SRH skipper Aiden Markram for which he had even scripted a record during the game.

The catch was completed during the second last balls of the 13th over. Mahesh Theekshana delivered a carrom ball that spun away as Markram rocked it back to play a lofted shot towards the offside. However, the ball found the edge of the bat, and Dhoni took a sharp catch behind the stumps. With this, Dhoni also completed 208 catches in T20 cricket, which is the most by any wicket-keeper in the shortest format surpassing South Africa’s Quinton de Kock.

Despite the record, Dhoni was not awarded ‘Best Catch of the Match’ and his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad got the award as he successfully attempted the catch at the wide backward point to dismiss Harry Brook in the fifth over of SRH's innings.

'I was in such a wrong position' - Dhoni

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Dhoni said that it was a difficult catch as he was in the wrong position. He also added that people think that it is easy to take a catch for wicketkeepers just because they wear gloves.

"Still, they didn't give me the best catch. I felt it was a fantastic catch. I was in such a wrong position. Just because we wear gloves, people think it's easy. A long time back I still remember one game - Rahul Dravid was keeping and he caught one like that. With your skill set, you can't take a catch like that. You have to be in a very wrong position to be able to take that kind of a catch," said Dhoni.

“Overall the middle overs were the setup. Fast bowlers bowled very well in the last few overs. I always tell them that the first preference of field setting is with you,” the CSK skipper further added.
