Team India announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. The online press conference for the announcement of the squad for the three-match series took place on Monday. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya have been rested for the first two ODIs.
In the absence of the 36-year-old KL Rahul will captain the side in the first two ODIs. The Indian Cricket Board chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced two different teams for the ODI series against the 'Kangaroos'. Axar Patel, who missed the Asia Cup 2023 final due to a left quadriceps strain, will also miss the first two matches.
Sanju Samson misses out again
The Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, was named a reserve for the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. He did not find a place in the World Cup squad as well. Now the wicketkeeper batter misses out on the upcoming series against the Aussies. Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were selected ahead of the Kerala batter. Samson has amassed 390 runs in 13 ODIs at an average of 55.71, including three half-centuries so far. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 51 off 41 in his last ODI outing against the West Indies.
The Men in Blue will feature their full squad in the final ODI against the five-time World Champion. Ravichandran Ashwin has got an ODI call-up. Ravindra Jadeja has been named the vice-captain for the first two ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav, who has been picked before Samson in the World Cup, has retained his place in India's squad for the ODI series.
