India is currently playing Afghanistan in a 3-match T20I series. The Men in Blue is playing their last white-ball series ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma has returned to the shortest format of the game since the 2022 World Cup defeat against England. The 36-year-old opener has been captaining the side again amid speculations about whether he will be part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
During the 1st T20I against the Afghans, there was something funny after the toss, Rohit forgot his teammate’s name and the combination they were playing as well. This is not the first time this hilarious incident has happened, previously also the explosive opener has forgotten the names of his playing XI. This is not the first time Rohit has blanked out at the toss. Last year, he forgot what he was supposed to do after winning the toss against New Zealand in an ODI in Raipur.
Avesh Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Kuldeep Yadav have not been a part of the side for the 1st T20I. Jaiswal who was supposed to take part in the first match of the series missed out after suffering a last-minute injury. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to field first. After being invited to bat first, Afghanistan made 158/5 in their 20 overs with Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai.

I wasn't in the team for the entire last year: Rohit Sharma
Rohit told Murali Kartik, "I wasn't in the team for the entire last year, but I've been talking to Rahul bhai about what we are doing and understand what we need to do as a group. Winning is the most important thing. Sanju (Samson), Avesh (Khan), (Yashasvi) Jaiswal (who didn't pull up well)... and Kuldeep are not playing."
After winning the toss he said, "No particular reason, the pitch doesn't change here much, says Rohit Sharma. "A lot to gain from these three games. We haven't had too much T20 cricket. Leading up to the WC we have IPL and stuff but an international game is an international game. Trying to achieve what the team is heading to."
