Young Indian batter Shubman Gill missed his century by 9 runs during the fourth day’s play in Rajkot. Kuldeep Yadav sold the young batter down the river as Ben Stokes’ direct hit had Gill short of his crease.

At first the umpires didn’t go up for the appeal but the England players kept appealing their case. Once the review was sought it was found that Gill was way short of his crease and was run out for 91.

The score made by Gill is famous as it was the exact same total that he had scored in Gabba in early 2021. India had chased down over 320 runs to win the Test and beat Australia in Brisbane for the first in 3 decades.

Team India’s lead inching close to 400

Team India began the day with Kuldeep Yadav and Shubman Gill batting. The two had seen day 3 out without much damage after Rajat Patidar had fallen for a duck. Earlier in the day Yashasvi Jaiswal had to retire hurt due to cramps when he was on 104.

Shubman Gill was out for a duck in the 1st innings to leave India in early trouble. The 24-year-old batter had scored a century in the previous game in Vizag to ease pressure. Rohit Sharma and his side are currently leading by over 390 runs.

With two more sessions left in the day and three more left on Monday, the Indian team will fancy its chance. An overall lead of over 550 will put pressure on the English batters who made merry when the pitch was at its flattest.

There was further good news for India when it was confirmed that veteran bowler Ashwin will be back. As per reports the 37-year-old will join the team during the lunch session on day four of the game. This will be a huge shot in the arm for India who were missing their lead spinner during the 1st innings of England’s batting.
