India rounder Hardik Pandya has been one of the most important parts of the Indian cricket team. In the last few years, he has been phenomenal with both bat and ball and currently leading the Indian team in T20s. However, Pandya has missed the longest format of the game.
Since his back injury, Hardik has forgone Test cricket to be fit for limited-over games. However, according to a recent news report, the Indian cricket board along with the national selection committee is set to decide Hardik's future in the Tests.
As reported by Inside Sport, the Board and Selection committee are set to meet the all-rounder ahead of the Test Championship finals in June this year. This is to discuss his future in the most extended format of the game. Board will ask Hardik about his plans and will decide his inclusion in the Test Championship finals if India manages to qualify for that.
Since his comeback last year, Hardik has been in better shape than ever, with both bat and ball.
India's qualification under threat
Talking about the Test Championship finals, India's qualification for the same is under threat following a humiliating defeat in Third Test against Australia. The home team is currently playing against Australia in the fourth Test. Rohit Sharma and co. will have to win this game to qualify for the prestigious Championship game at The Oval in June this year.
In the fourth Test Australia is having the upper hand after Day 1 as they scored 255 runs for 4 wickets. Usman Khawaja and Camron Green are batting for the visitors after scoring a century and 49 runs, respectively. India will look to end the Aussies' innings as soon as possible on the second day of the game. They have to win this game to qualify on their own. If India fails to win this game they have to wait for the results of New Zealand vs Sri Lanka series to know the qualification scenarios.
