Robin Minz was one of the uncapped players who was sold at a good price of 3.6 crore INR to Gujarat Titans (GT). The 21-year-old wicket-keeper batter has been on the radar of the franchises. His father is a retired Army man who now works for a security agency in Ranchi as a security guard at Ranchi airport. Minz's father was in the airport for the CISF duty when he got the news of his son being sold to the 2022 Indian Premier League Championships (IPL).
Previously, Dhoni was familiar with the wicket-keeper batter and Francis before this auction. CSK captain had once told Robin to spend more time on the crease and not just look to hit sixes on all balls. The right-handed batter trains in the Sonnet cricket club in Ranchi and his batting coach Asif Haque feels he is jut like the West Indian batting legend Chris Gayle who is the greatest T20 batter of all time.
CSK did not show any interest in buying the player as the batter went to GT for a good deal. He might not be starting in the playing XI but he would get some good experience with the side and the coaching staff as well. Another batter from the same region has got a price of 7.20 crore INR to Delhi Capitals (DC).
We call him Ranchi ka Gayle: Asif Haque
Asif told, "We call him Ranchi ka Gayle. He is left-handed, well-built, and hits big sixes. A new-age cricketer, who loves to take on the bowlers from ball one, believes in batting at a strike rate of 200." Dhoni while taking flight to somewhere, he had met Francis and said, "If nobody buys your son, we (CSK) will."
The IPL Auction 2024 was a massive success this was the first time that a live audience was present. Around 72 players were sold at 230.45 crores INR at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. The IPL 2024 auction broke many records in terms of money spent to bag star players.
