Lucknow Super Giants might be relatively new to the IPL circle but in their two years of IPL, they have been successful in creating a significant impact and have qualified for the playoffs in both these IPL outings.

Like many other successful IPL teams, they have been able to create a core of players around whom their playing combination revolves but the major which LSG has been that they haven’t been able to fine-tune their playing XI and in both seasons they had some loopholes which resulted in it in them missing out on crucial junctures of the tournament. This would be the issue that they would be eager to resolve in the upcoming auctions.

LSG has released 8 players before the upcoming auctions and can accommodate a maximum of 6 more players in their squad. After releasing some players before the closure of the trading window and adding 5 crores in their kitty, they are left with 13.15 crores before the mini-auction. Here is the list of top 5 players that LSG could go for in the auctions:

1. Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga presents an enticing prospect for LSG in the IPL 2024 auction as an all-rounder spinner. Having previously been with Royal Challengers Bangalore, he is now available after being released by the franchise.

Recognized as one of the most formidable spinners in international cricket, Hasaranga's dual prowess as a strong lower-order batsman adds further depth to his value, making him a valuable addition to any team especially on a sluggish Lucknow track.

2. Daryl Mitchell

This New Zealand all-rounder has garnered attention with his reliable batting and agile fielding in recent times. He has the potential to offer LSG a valuable choice in the lower middle order and bolster their bowling lineup. Lucknow Super Giants is actively seeking a middle-order batsman to fill the gap left by Harry Brook's departure in the IPL 2024 auction, and with a budget of 13.15 crores at their disposal, Daryl Mitchell is an attractive prospect for LSG.

Mitchell's consistent ability to score runs against both fast and spin bowling makes him a valuable asset. His adaptability in the batting lineup further increases his appeal to LSG, as he can effectively slot into various positions in the middle order.

3. Shakib-al Hasan

Looking to address their weaknesses in both spin bowling and middle-order batting, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) may find the ideal solution in the form of Shakib Al Hasan. With limited financial resources available, LSG might not be able to attract the attention of many top players. However, Shakib Al Hasan, a seasoned campaigner in the IPL and one of the best spin all-rounders in international cricket presents a unique opportunity.

His left-arm spin bowling would significantly bolster LSG's bowling attack, providing a vital weapon against opposing batsmen. Furthermore, his experience and proven ability with the bat in the middle order would add stability and power to LSG's batting lineup.

4. Shardul Thakur

While deemed overpriced by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and subsequently released, Shardul Thakur could emerge as a hot commodity in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. Although the impact player rule may have slightly decreased the value of Indian pace all-rounders, their potential remains undeniable, especially when strategically utilized.

Thakur's key strengths lie in his wicket-taking ability and diverse repertoire of cutters, enabling him to stifle batsmen throughout the middle and late overs. He also provides valuable support with the bat, offering a reliable option at the lower order.

Despite a dip in form last season, Thakur's Indian status significantly enhances his overall value. This, coupled with his proven skills and versatility, makes him an attractive target for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming auction.

5. Shahrukh Khan

While Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) boast a strong top order, they lack a genuine finisher capable of boosting the team's score in the death overs, specifically against pace bowlers. While Marcus Stoinis holds some potential, LSG might seek an Indian option who can be strategically replaced with a bowler in the second innings. This is where Shahrukh Khan enters the picture.

The revised pitches in Lucknow, expected to be less sluggish, further enhance Shahrukh's appeal. His ability to unleash his power-hitting prowess in the late stages of the innings could make him an absolute beast for LSG.
