Punjab Kings blunder picking player in mini-auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction has finally concluded. With all the teams acquiring the services of the players, they needed in their squad to bolster it. The auction saw some players going for massive bids and there were some steal deals for the franchises. The two big Australian stars Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were the two players to get the highest and second highest bid in the history of the IPL auction. They got the money of 24.75 crore INR and 20.50 crore INR respectively from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

During the auction, something hilarious happened. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) committed a mistake in the auction. As they picked the 'wrong player', and the mistake, the franchise did raise the issue with the auctioneer Mallika Sagar but was informed that the bid had already been completed, hence it cannot be reversed.

The player named Indian uncapped Shashank Singh. Co-owners Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and their team made a blunder on the auction table as they mistook the Chattisgarh player and made a mockery of their own auction strategy's video has gone viral on social media.

Mallika asked, "It was a wrong name? You don't want the player?. We are talking about Shashank Singh. But the hammer has come down. Player No. 236 and 237 both went to you. I think the hammer has come down for 237 (Shashank) as well." The franchise had no other option but to keep the player.

They bought some good buys in the auction picking English all-rounder Chris Woakes, Harshal Patel who was the highest paid Indian player at 11.75 crore INR and in the end picked Rilee Rossouw as well.
