SWOT analysis of DC ahead of IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals (DC) are one of the teams that fail to perform after making a formidable team on paper. The Capitals have underperformed in the last two seasons, but in 2024, they will try to prove their strength and capture the championship. They placed 9th in the IPL points table in the 2023 season. David Warner was the captain in the absence of Rishabh Pant who suffered a fatal accident.  

Following a string of bad seasons, they will attempt to play aggressive cricket in 2024 and win the IPL trophy. They have bought nine players in the mini-auction of the IPL 2024. With the likes of Harry Brook, and Jhye Richardson in their side. They have also shown faith in the young Kumar Kushagra. The team's regular captain Rishabh Pant might be back to the side for the upcoming season and might play as an impact player. 

The best they performed was back in 2020 when they qualified for the final and eventually lost to Mumbai Indians (MI). Since then they are yet to qualify for the knockouts and have shown a dismal performance in recent years. In the article, we will be doing a SWOT(Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis of the squad ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

SWOT analysis of SRH

Strength 

The biggest strength of the side is their top-order batting. With the likes of David Warner, and young Prithvi Shaw to give them a strong start while batting. The latter has struggled with the form in the previous edition of the tournament. But he has regained his form in the 2023 season. In England's County one-day game he scored 429 runs at an impressive average of 143 in just four matches. Warner on the other hand is in exceptional form in the white-ball format. He was one of the key players in Australia's 6th World Cup win. With the addition of Harry Brook and they have Mitchell Marsh the batting is looking dangerous. 

Weakness

The weakness of the side is their middle and lower order with the release of Rovman Powell they do not have that firepower towards the end of the innings that will finish the games for the side. Rishabh Pant is their only finisher who can firepower except for him they do not have the depth in the side. Though Axar Patel is there in the side his batting ability in the T20 format is a question. This can be a problem for the franchise in the long-time league. 

Opportunities 

Harry Brook's inclusion in the side has been a steal deal with the amount that he has purchased for just 4 crore INR. He was not properly utilised by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after being brought for an amount of 13.75 crore INR. The England star will have to prove himself in the upcoming T20 league to keep alive his IPL career. With his addition in the side he will be a good opener as well putting pressure on Prithvi Shaw and the batter will be under scanner if he fails to perform in the 2024 edition. 

Threats

The biggest threat to the side is some players are very injury-prone. With the likes of Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje the two South African pace duo are very much injury prone making a headache for the side. The management is still not sure about the availability of their fast bowler. Though they have a backup option of Jhye Richardson his form and white-ball bowling in India. With Rishabh Pant coming back from a long-term break his form will also be a concern for the side.
